The press uncovered late that Hankyung wants out of his contract with management company SM Entertainment. According to Chinese press, “Super Junior member Hankyung has filed for provisional disposition for his exclusive contract with SM Entertainment at the Seoul Central District Court.” The media added that, “details surrounding the invalidation of the exclusive contract cannot be revealed, but the cause for legal proceedings may be due to the unreasonable contract terms with SM Entertainment.”
Recently, Sohu.com released an article that Hankyung felt hurt by the Girls Generation (SNSD) members, citing it as a major reason why he wants out of the contract with SM Entertainment. The Korean press quickly covered that the Chinese article was taken out of context, and SM Entertainment also denied a problem between the Super Junior member and any of the 9 girls of Girls Generation.
The title of the Chinese article read, “Hankyung was belittled by Girls Generation members,” causing quite an uproar that hoobaes (a junior) would do such a thing. The article stated three reasons for Hankyung’s decision to file a lawsuit against his entertainment agency: (1) the unfair contract, (2) the entertainment company neglected Hankyung’s health since debut, (3) feelings of hurt from other Korean artists — namely Girls Generation.
Many believe this article to be the work of antis of both Girls Generation and Korean entertainment in China. The belittling comment was reported that Girls Generation told Hankyung, “Oppa [older brother], do you think dying your hair blonde will make you look Korean?”
Netizens believe this comment was taken out of context from a time when fellow Super Junior member Heechul was telling a story that after Hankyung dyed his hair, some Girls Generation members were surprised by the drastic change and just commented, “Oppa, what did you do to your hair?”
SM Entertainment has stated, “There has never been an instance of Girls Generation saying something like that… It is deplorable that this kind of news would arise between members of the same family.”
It seems like the Chinese market wants to have their say in this dispute, which may be particularly troublesome for SM Entertainment. Many Chinese netizens already believe that Hankyung will have to leave Super Junior.
With word that Super Junior member, Hyun-kyung is taking his management company, SM Entertainment to court, another member Kyu-hyun had this reply on his Cyworld minihompy:
“Even a beast don’t bite the hand that feeds one… I can not understand”
Member DongHae wrote on EunHyuk’s minihompy on the morning of 22nd December, “Stifling…Depressing…(I gave) no strength…You?”
This follows after it was reported on 21st December that HanKyung has filed for provisional disposition of contract terms with SM Entertainment. Also earlier on 21st December, member KyuHyun also talked about his feelings about the news on his minihompy.
SM Entertainment has responded by saying, “For the sake of Super Junior, we will try to settle this through communication”.
